What are are blog widgets? Good question! Blog widgets are little mini-apps that you can run in your WordPress sidebar to perform basic functions. Widgets make use of AJAX to allow blog owners an easy way to add and rearrange their widgets by simply dragging and dropping.

The key to understanding blog widgets is to just try them out. One of my favorite widget sites is Widgetoko where you can download a widget to display a daily painting in your blog sidebar or the popular Flickr Profile Widget. Widgetoko not only includes Wordpress widgets, but also MySpace widgets, etc.

Another great source of WordPress widgets is the official Wordpress Widget blog. While not as pretty as Widgetoko, it does include some of the best widgets out there.

Perhaps the most thorough and comprehensive widget site on the net is WidgetBox. WidgetBox includes widgets for MySpace, WordPress, Typepad and more. Some of the coolest widgets at WidgetBox include daily comic strips and a complete shopping cart solution.
